3/21/2024 0 Comments Rat fink shift knob spark plugAfter all that feeling relatively defeated, I went to mcdonalds of course. I managed to bump start it and luckily I only made it one street from my house. As soon as I gave her some throttle in first gear she hated it, shootin some more flames with loud pops out of my air filter, my rpms jumping like crazy, my poor K&N explodes internally once again releasing a bright flash and the bike dies. I threw on the battery in the pitch black, woke up all my neighbors after it winded up for what seemed like 20 damn seconds. After my battery said it was fully charged I had the amazing idea of my eager ass giving it a test ride. I know my electrical is good because it was all recently redone, compression could always be better but no obviously leak yet. Well, I put the battery on the charger and it was fully charged in about an hour which told me that the battery wasn't dead and obviously the bike can't start because of some other reason. This didn't really freak me out because yall know how it is with vintages I mean come on. I give her some revs, and she bogs down, to keep it from dying I gave it another rev and I sh*t you not a huge plume of fire and smoke shot out of my K&N air filter. I decided to try again like two minutes later, and bam she fires up! Sputtery, super low idle, sounded like a harley if you had a bird stuck in the air filter. Okay batteries dead I thought from sitting, sure. Well come a week later today, I slapped my tire on with my sweet new bearings and went to turn her on! .wind.now the engine winding stops and only the starter spins. Recently shes been out of commission for about a week because I had the front tire off waiting for a set of bearings, and I remember that before I took off that tire, she was acting a little funny. She was great at first, starting up quicker then ever. Eventually I fixed her up to make her somewhat rideable without being a death sentence which you know we're still making progress but we will be there one day! In this time of fixing her up I took out the old plugs, brought them to the shop and said I need some in this size! Well, I got my BPR5ES spark plugs and rode on brothers. Ol' rat rod tank sounding thing with more problems then you can imagine but damn she ran good with those issues. So this one hits me a little in the head because I've always liked to me that mechanical guy so the fact i've went this long (300+ with the incorrect spark plug blows my mind. Okay so I just thought i'd share this funny, kinda dangerous moment with you guys.
